Humanities 101

The Humanities 101 guide is designed to assist you with locating documents for your course assignment. These guidelines are intended to supplement, not replace, the instructions outlined in your syllabus. The information and resources provided in this guide work as a resource for locating needed materials to complete your notebook. Following the outlined requirements in your Humanities handout and pairing them with suggested outlined resources will aid you in successfully completing the requirements for the course.

Articles from periodicals Art News and Alabama Heritage have been selected and grouped in a binder. The articles are on reserve in each campus's library. However, the articles may not be taken from the library, but students may read them on-site or make copies. 

This guide focuses on the following areas in Humanities 101:

Visual Arts

• This section has information and resources on the types of visual arts such as architecture, painting, photography, and sculpting. 

Performing Arts

• This section has information and resources on types of performing arts such as music, drama, and dance. 

Literary Arts

• This section has information and resources on types of literary arts such as creative writing and poetry. 

Humanities 101 introduces students to the humanities through independent visits to art, music, literature, history, and drama presentations and subsequent assignments.
