According to the University of Oxford, plagiarism is, “presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgment.” Technically or based on Oxford's definition, academic writings created by AI are not necessarily considered plagiarism because AI creates, for the most part, "new" content. However, AI removes the learning process when you, the student, use it to create your writing assignments. Therein lies the problem. "Academic writing is meant to help you understand concepts by studying the work of others, analyzing it, and coming to your own conclusions." Obviously, this is not possible if AI performs all the work for you. Furthermore, at most schools, failure to attribute content to an AI program is academic dishonesty. In other words, when you claim the AI-created content as your own, plagiarism occurs.
